Hydrogen Peroxide can be used for many cleaning purposes. What most don’t know is that peroxide is not just made to clean cuts and scrapes. Here are a few ways you can start using peroxide around your house today!
Important Tip: Peroxide is very light sensitive, which is why it is in brown (dark) bottles. Do not transfer peroxide to a new bottle unless it is dark, otherwise it may not work the way it’s designed to.
1. Clean That Kitchen!
These days, we are all looking for more natural and organic ways to use cleaners in our home without all the harmful chemicals. One of the best ways to sanitize and clean your kitchen counters and appliances is with peroxide and vinegar. Simply spray vinegar, then peroxide then wipe away any mess.
2. Keep Your Sponges Clean
Don’t throw that sponge out just yet! Over time, sponges can hold odors, germs and everything in between. That’s where peroxide comes in to save you money! Steep your sponge in a cup of hydrogen peroxide for at least 30 minutes to kill all the bacteria and remove any foul odors. Then rinse the sponge and it’s like new again!
3. A Clean Septic is a Happy Septic
If you are one of the lucky few who have to manage a septic tank, peroxide is here to help. Simply flush one ounce of hydrogen peroxide into your system every four to six months to help it stay in working order.
4. Sanitize that Toothbrush
It may seem like your tooth brush is clean on the surface, but little do you know, many germs are lurking within. Using a small amount of Hydrogen Peroxide, soak your tooth brush for 5-10 minutes and rinse to kill all the germs. It is recommended to do this once or twice a week.
5. Brighten Those Whites
Simply add half a cup of peroxide to each load of whites to boost the whites back to life! It works like a bleach.
6. Clean Your Windows
Most window cleaners can be expensive and leave your windows with streaks and not so clean. Using half water and half 3% peroxide to clean your windows will leave them incredibly clean, streak free and at a great low cost!
7. Sanitize Your Kids Toys
We all know how many germs are lurking on our kid’s favorite toys. Of course they make disinfectant sprays to help with that, but not at a budget friendly cost. That’s when hydrogen peroxide comes to the rescue. Simply add peroxide to a (darker) spray bottle and spray evenly on toys and let air dry to disinfect.
8. No More Dirty Shower Curtain
We all know how quick our shower curtains can get dirty with mildew, hard water stains or soap scum. Don't settle for tossing it in the trash just yet. Just place your curtain(s) in your washing machine on gentle, add 1 cup of 3% Hydrogen peroxide and regular detergent. Simple!
9. No More Dingy Floors
Want your floors to shine again? No problem! Add half a cup of hydrogen peroxide to one gallon of hot water and clean away! No need to rinse.
10. Clean the Dishwasher
Over time dishwasher can become grimy and hold more germs than you may think. Using 1/4 cup of peroxide during a cycle will clean and sanitize your dishwasher.
